The farmhouse where the cellar and vineyard are located is the one where my father Mario was born, in 1946, and from which he left young because his parents weren't ready for a "change of course" towards a quality way of making wine and no longer linked to quantity (and certainly to the existence of large families).
So he married his mother Margherita and they went to raise a family in Rivoli, near Turin, towards the Susa Valley and France. Retirement arrives for him, very soon, and so he takes over his parents' campaign and begins to dedicate himself to it with the heart of a young man.
The nice thing is that the land in the Gonella house has always been cultivated well, in a respectful way, without the interference of chemicals and herbicides.
I'm from 1981 and I have a very long name, I'm happy when I sign it because it reminds me of who I am: me, and a little bit of grandma Rosa and grandma Lidia.
I grew up in Rivoli, but almost every weekend I was in the countryside with my grandparents and when I turned 24 I decided that my job would be farming.
I have supported my father and now my husband Davide supports me: we have decided to carry on this project all together, with passion and seriousness.
We work 4.5 hectares of vineyards and the vines are arneis, bonarda, barbera and nebbiolo.
In the vineyard, copper and sulphur, nettle and horsetail teas; in the cellar only grapes for spontaneous fermentation and a little sulfur before bottling.
The practices are those of organic agriculture, we try to give back to the soil and to the plants what they give us: grassing, sometimes green manure sowing, pruning, hoeing, green cleaning, harvest (in open 20 kg boxes) are manual .
I love that wines are "direct", recognizable in their being, clean and that they speak for themselves.
Since 2014 I have also started fermenting the white Arneis with the skins, to restore dignity and body to this vine.
I also stopped applying for DOC and DOCG, I believe more in the vine, in the territory, in the vintage and in the people.
