30 km north of Mâcon, the small village of Bray has its roots in the heart of an atypical terroir due to its full western exposure. A rarity in the region, which Peter Gierszewski has chosen to cultivate on four hectares organically. Rather confidential in a region more associated with Pouilly-Fuissé and other Viré-Clessé, the Mâcon-Bray appellation (around one hundred hectares scattered over the municipalities of Bray, Cortambert, Chissey-les-Mâcon and Blanot) seduced by its wines typified from granite, clay-limestone and marly soils. It is this happy diversity that convinced Peter Gierszewski to settle in 2009, he who until now managed a cellar in Cluny. Owner of the Domaine de Thalie, this 39-year-old winemaker works alone and cultivates - another curiosity - more reds than whites: a third of Gamay, a third of Pinot Noir, a third of Chardonnay. And also a little Syrah, recently planted to produce, in a blend with Gamay, a Saône-et-Loire country wine. Organic culture pegged to the body, Peter proclaims his love for “real” wines, while confessing his weakness for his red Mâcon-Bray cuvée les raised stones: “Marl is usually fairly cold soils, no one is planted there. not the gamay. But here the vines are exposed due south, with their feet in the fresh air and their heads in the sun, which gives deceptive wines when tasted.
