Domaine Julien Auroux is a family property passed down for six generations! It is located in the town of Boisse in Périgord and in the Bergerac wine appellation area. It is a remarkable site where the exceptional terroir rubs shoulders with a panorama that is among the most extensive in the region. One of the peculiarities of the vineyard is to be inserted in an environment rich in diversity: the plots of vines rub shoulders with meadows, woods, hedges and various crops all grown organically by other family members. A ''peasant'' environment in line with our desire to produce wines of great authenticity. Before settling down, I forged in 11 years a solid professional experience always in the service of quality. Of course, this is the lot of all sons of winegrowers, my adolescence was punctuated by work on the family estate. After my wine studies I wanted to see what was happening on the other side of the world, as far as possible from my home. I went to Australia and New Zealand and for ten months I vinified and pruned the Australian way. When I got back, I went to a prestigious chateau in Pomerol, which allowed me to learn about great wines. Then, I spent eight years as cellar master on a 40 ha property in Monbazillac. There I refined my technical knowledge and developed my palate. And finally I worked for a year on a very beautiful domain of Fitou to question my vision of wine and I then decided to take over the family domain. At the end of 2013, after having taken the time to renovate a house to accommodate my little family, I found myself at the head of the family estate, or at least what was left of it. Indeed the production system that I am using is worn to the bone: partially collapsed roofs, obsolete equipment. On the other hand, the terroir is magnificent and the vineyard is on average 40 years old, which is essential for producing quality wines. Despite these difficulties, I did not hesitate to commit the vineyard to organic farming. It was not possible to do a job that would respect neither my health, nor that of the consumer and even less that of the environment. Today I understand that growing vines organically is essential for the quality of the wines. We are also trying to go a little further with the cultivation of plant cover, the use of nettle manure, energized farm compost and we are aware that there is still more to do. My objective is to produce wines of high quality, sincere and reflecting their terroir. For this, every effort is made to obtain a well-balanced harvest. I proscribe the use of oak barrels that I have worked extensively in my past and which have not given me satisfaction. I prefer the purity and tension of bare juices, I think all the nobility is in the fruit. Finally, while keeping the production of “straight” wine as a guideline, I minimize the use of oenological inputs as much as possible because I consider that the Grail would be to produce an exceptional wine made from 100% grapes.
