Why make wine?
Iker is the son and grandson of a farmer. He has always worked the vines and after his studies, decided to continue working the land, going a little further: switch everything to organic and make wine, moreover, natural.
We have the opportunity to be able to improve the earth, to contribute to
to add value to the work of our predecessors and to offer a product that reflects this commitment. Organic, biodynamic, natural wine, are
principles little known and applied in our region (Rioja Alavesa,
Spain), and we stand out by working to apply and live the
principles of respectful agriculture.
In the vineyard, we cultivate following the principles of Biodynamics. The
preparations, timing, energization, manure and a strong presence
human (even if the tractor is of course essential). According to
vineyards, we work by hand or mechanize. We grow more than
12 ha in certified organic and a few ha in conversion. Our vineyards have between 30
and 100 years and we are working to maintain a genetic capital that would have
otherwise disappeared. Old grape varieties already forgotten in Rioja, vines little
productive, certainly, but of high quality. Terroir: clay-limestone located in
500 and 650 meters above sea level, Mediterranean micro climate (Valley of the Ebro).
The plots are isolated from each other (no land consolidation in
our region, which means that we can enjoy a wide variety
growth and orientation from one vineyard to another).
Vinification: Since we started 6 years ago, we have
as a clear principle the production of healthy, creative and well-made wines. We
practice the minimum intervention: no sulphiting, no clarification or
stabilization, native yeasts, unfiltered wines… In short, natural wines
100%. Creativity in winemaking is key, in addition to the care we
let's get to work in the cellar. Each vintage is different, since each
year is too (climate), and we like to adapt and find new
ways of doing things, so that the wines are structured and balanced. We
let's also take care of the calm and harmony that reigns in the winery, with the help of
tuning forks and sacred geometry.
To date, we are developing about 10 references for a total of 17,000
bottles. It is a small project, which does not intend to grow much.
Red, white, pet nat, claret, gurgle, plot wine… Our range is
quite eclectic.
