Our company is located in a place with a centuries-old winemaking tradition called Frascati, within the Castelli Romani Park. In particular, the historical name of the small independent valley in which we find ourselves is Pentima dei frati.
In the Municipality of Monte Porzio Catone, at 320 m asl, we biodynamically raise two hectares of old vines - from 30 to 60 years old - with pergola and row and one hectare of olive grove and orchard. The vineyard was bought in 2014 while the land for the new red plant and the cellar in 2016. The cellar, built from scratch, was built between April and September 2017, while the house in the first months of 2018. Both they were designed by Daniele, who oversaw the process in all its phases of realization, mainly working on the materials and details with local craftsmen and masters.
The varieties are typical of the place: Malvasia di Candia and Lazio, yellow, Tuscan and green Trebbiano, Bombino, Bellone for white wines; Cesanese municipality, Aleatico, Sangiovese and Montepulciano for red wines.
The particular circular and steep conformation of this valley allows us to have all the exposures and to make micro harvests from which we get our wines. On one side of this valley there are vaulted rooms from the Roman era, a probable cistern, a trace of the centuries-old agricultural past of this place.
The name Ribelà derives from a dialect term used in Monte Porzio Catone which means "cover" - rebel ... with the earth the newly planted vines. The gesture of tucking the earth around the vine with a hoe or a spade is for us a symbol of a new beginning but also of the continuous renewal of what is meant to be a great wine history that needs to be taken care of. In fact, we believe that a beautiful history and a suitable terroir cannot help but produce quality wines.
We have chosen this place with the intention of resuming the winemaking tradition of this stratified and complex territory to bring it into a more "human" dimension - as far as the vineyard is concerned - and "modern" - as regards wine. The belief is that the unstoppable globalization brings with it the need to emancipate and differentiate on the basis of one's own "typical" culture.
We believe in integrated agriculture, the result of the symbiotic relationship that is necessarily created between the terroir and the man who lives it, observes it, listens to it. The wine will consequently be the result, the mirror of this continuous silent dialogue.
Finally, we chose the hot air balloon as a symbol. A vehicle that, in addition to offering you a different point of view on the world, allows you to move in the desired direction only according to the weather conditions. This is a relationship between will and contingency, which we think is inseparable in our way of making wine.
We work in the vineyard trying to translate this magnificent, historically suited terroir into wine.
We therefore believe in a wine that is always different, which is a changing expression of the terroir and of the vintage.
We have been using Carlo Noro's biodynamic preparations since 2015 and since 2019 the wines are certified organic.
All our wines are obtained by spontaneous fermentation on indigenous open vat yeasts.
They are neither filtered nor clarified and do not contain adjuvants and chemical additives.
The total amount of sulfur never exceeds 20 mg / l. Most of the processing is manual.
