We landed at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos in 2012, in the Valle del Tiétar, and instantly fell in love.
Our passion for the natural environment and for wine lead us to acquire the commitment to transmit the character of one of the areas with the longest winemaking tradition in our country.
A character almost unknown by the culture of the bulk winemaking area. With this work, we also wanted the soil of those vineyards to come back to life since, with the widespread use of pesticides, its microbiology was badly damaged.
With the few grapes we harvested, we began to make wine in our garage under the Raúl Calle Viticultor brand. Finally, in 2021 we moved to a larger space, where we can expand production and work more comfortably.
That is when we changed the brand to Vinos Naturi. A pejorative name that a friend used when referring to us. And from this defect, we made our virtue.
This growth has brought about many changes, among them, we began to make wine with grapes from other viticulturists who took care of their vines in the same way as we did, without chemicals and respecting the natural cycles of the vines.
They did not make wine, but they were the vineyards that they had planted with their grandparents, parents, uncles... and they did not want them to be lost. The only outlet for his grapes was the cooperative in his town,
whose low prices and deferred payments did not meet their expectations. Most of them were tired of this situation and were throwing in the towel. A lot of vineyards have been uprooted around here.
In turn, some other winegrowers have listened to our discourse and have stopped applying chemicals to their vineyards. Lucky we feel with our grain of sand...
The vineyards that we take care of are very old, in many cases hundreds of years old, of strict dry land, formed in a glass. We carry out short pruning, always seeking to achieve greater expression and not production. Less kilos but richer grapes. We observe and act, we clear or plow the plots depending on the needs of each one, depending on the weather of the year, the orientation, etc. We respect their times, we do not force them, nor do we apply chemical products that interfere with the wine they will be.
In this same sense, respect for the soil and in search of its recovery, we apply the principles of permaculture, where each ecosystem regulates itself.
In the elaborations almost all the work is manual and artisan. We do microvinifications. We work small volumes. We love being free and being able to try new/old winemaking techniques.
In the same dynamic of respect for the raw material, the wines contain nothing except the juice of healthy grapes that we preselect when we harvest.
We go from contributions that subtract the emotion. We do not correct, we do not filter, we do not stabilize, we do not add preservatives to any of our wines.
