The School of Natural Wine is a unique initiative founded by celebrated winemaker Fabio Bartolomei (Vinos Ambiz), and Carlos Rodríguez-Santamarta, whose company Food Material is the largest Spanish wine importer in Germany.
The focus of the school is on the production of natural wine. Their philosophy is that the essence of natural wine comes from the heart of the producer, and students in this program will gain knowledge of the entire natural wine production process, including working the soil, growing crops, vinification, tasting, and marketing. The goal is to equip them with the tools to become a winemaker or natural wine entrepreneur.
Located in Sierra de Gredos, Spain, aspiring winemakers will experience the terroir of this mountainous region and understand how all environmental factors impact every last sip. The vineyards are over 50 years old, and the oldest vines were restored to their former glory in 2022 and have already helped to produce thousands of bottles.
In addition to the vineyards, The School of Natural Wine also has a historical cellar and winery for students to learn the entire winemaking process practically.
Students can choose different modules and participate for 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, or even a full year, depending on their preferences and what they'd like to learn. The program is open to anyone over 18 years of age, with no prior qualifications required.
What a great initiative!
